
Contract negotiation

This one day training session is structured to provide participants with some or limited experience in negotiating petroleum contracts with an overview of key oil & gas contracts and practical insights into the negotiation process. Participants are introduced to the attributes of contracts across the project life-cycle and the skills required for their negotiation, learn how to apply a structured approach to negotiations and engage in interactive practice sessions to improve their confidence in negotiating and the outcomes of their negotiations.
Participants learn about the legal framework for the petroleum sector and examine negotiations associated with designing and implementing regulatory reform for the sector. The session also focuses on building an understanding of key contractual terms and the Government/Investor perspectives on these terms. In the final group exercise, teams of participants, playing the role of either the government or the contractor, simulate an actual negotiation of petroleum contract.
