This course is intended for participants from national oil companies (or state-owned enterprises). We review how NOC roles are defined and how NOCs can improve corporate governance and manage interactions with government. We also review practical approaches to benchmarking performance of NOCs, including financial and operational metrics. We discuss how to build strategies that are resilient in the context of evolving global markets (including the energy transition) and national public policy goals. The learning objectives are:
1) Have a clearer sense of the steps forward NOCs can take to enhance their companies’ approach to performance measurement and benchmarking;
2) Make more effective proposals and arguments in their interactions with government around how to define the NOC role and scope of work clearly.
